Who We Are and Our Value Proposition
Ebonyi State College of Education, Ikwo was established as an Agricultural outfit by the Norwegians after independence, (NORCAP). It became part of Anambra State, as a College of Agriculture with Elder Ayama Nwadiagu as the then Provost of the College of Agriculture, which metamorphosed into the College of Education, as the Pioneer Provost of the Ebonyi State College of Education, Ikwo; He led the College to greater height and the College which trained and gave successful candidates National Diploma in Agriculture, and with the creation of Ebonyi State the then Executive Governor Dr. Sam Egwu, converted the College of Agriculture to a coveted College of Education to train teachers. It was tuition-free for science-based students while Arts students paid a token. This heralded thousands of students who flooded the College in pursuit of the NCE Programmes, admission into the College was and is still easy and the school fees are relatively low with no hidden school fees, hence the College yearly enrolment rose from about 600 in the year 2000, and reach a peak of 2500+ students in 2009/2010 under the able Provost now Prof. Dan. Enyi who held the mantle of leadership at that time. The College was to get another uplift not only educationally but infrastructural wise under the Headship of Prof. Omebe Silas who did a lot with TETFund to build many modern structures in the College within the 8 years he spent in the College, which includes TLT block and many High Impact blocks to mention a few, in addition he got the College Affiliated to Ebonyi State University for Degree programmes. This sent most of our NCE graduands enrolled to run the programme in the College, presently five departments offer Degree courses along with 21 departments in NCE Programmes
The College (EBSCOEI) is a citadel of learning with qualified Teaching and Non-teaching staff; the environment is serene and this gives all students a good and level playing ground to run their studies without much stress
MODE OF ENTRY
Initially, Admission procedures were not through JAMB, but prospective students approached the College for Admission. But, with the introduction of (CAPS) by JAMB all entry into the College has been centralized. So new entrants are required to purchase JAMB registration every year, either UTME or Direct Entry for Degree students and UTME for NCE students. It is pertinent to point out to prospective students for JAMB that there is no fixed cut-off mark for Admissions as this is decided yearly when JAMB results are published in the (Annual JAMB Policy Meetings) so cut-off marks do vary from year to year.
Besides the general requirement of JAMB, candidates are expected to have at least 5 credits in the WEAC or NECO or any other qualifying certificate in not more than two sittings two of the subjects must be English and Mathematics and 3 other relevant to the course of study.
